Our Students Shine as Finalists in Chinese Language Contest

We are so proud of the talented students from our Confucius Classrooms who are finalists in this year’s statewide Chinese Language Contest at NC State University!

A total of eight of the 30 finalists (non-immersion programs) have been mentored by our CIU Chinese Guest Teachers. There is a lot of dedication and hard work behind this impressive showing!

“This is the first year that students who are studying with our guest teachers have reached the finals at the advanced level,” said CIU’s Associate Director of World Language Programs June Chen. “This is an honor and a wonderful recognition of the importance of world languages in helping our students gain global competence.”

Half of finalists in the intermediate level competition (non-immersion) have been studying under three of our Chinese Guest Teachers: Lei Chen at Hickory Ridge Middle School in Cabarrus County; Limei Dai at Jesse Carson High School in Rowan County; and Qiaoying Lou at Polk County High School.

In addition, Qiaoying Lou has two students from Polk County High School who are finalists in advanced level contest and Lei Chen has one student from Hickory Ridge Middle School who a finalist in the beginner level contest.

Congratulations on this impressive showing!
