Generous Gift for Graham & Yadkin County Teachers

Two Gifts Make Lasting Impact
Two generous gifts from Jeanette Hyde totaling $100,000 expand Global Teachers Fellowship

Long-time friend and former board member, Jeanette Hyde, has given GGNC an amazing  gift to assure teachers from two counties — Graham and Yadkin — will be a part of our Global Teachers Fellowship, in perpetuity.

Graham County Goes Global
The first $50,000 gift honors Jeanette’s late husband, Wallace, who was born and raised in Graham County. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Hyde traveled the world and they understood the lasting impact of making this opportunity available for teachers.

“We believed it was very important for people to understand and experience the world beyond the USA. I think people understanding other cultures and having an international experience is very important,” Jeanette shared with us. “There is a saying, ‘It’s a big world out there!’ And I want our North Carolina teachers to experience it and to inspire their students to know about it.”

Thanks to Jeanette’s gift, each year a Graham County teacher will participate in our 18-month professional development program that includes intensive short-term study abroad. Many call our Global Teachers program, “the greatest professional development experience of my career.”

This $50,000 donation serves as the needed match for a current funding opportunity available to economically destressed counties. Thanks to a $1 million State appropriation, Tier 1 and Tier 2 counties can secure a Global Teachers slot for one teacher every year in perpetuity. The one-time Tier 1 match is $40,000, and the one-time Tier 2 match is $50,000. For more information on the county matching fund opportunity, please contact GGNC Founder and Board Member Millie Ravenel at millieravenel@gmail.com.

“I want the Graham County teachers to have some of the same types of opportunities we had in understanding more about our world so they can come back home and teach their students what they learned and share these experiences with the community.”

Thank you, Jeanette and Wallace, for believing in the transformational power of global education and for supporting Go Global NC!

Yadkin Joins Global Teachers Fellowship
Great news keeps getting better! Long-time GGNC supporter Jeanette Hyde has given a second $50,000 donation to make global professional development available to North Carolina educators – this time for Yadkin County teachers. Jeanette’s gift assures a teacher from Yadkin County will be a part of our Global Teachers Fellowship every year, in perpetuity. Jeanette’s earlier gift secured the same opportunity for Graham County teachers.

Jeanette, who was born and raised in Yadkin County, shared this with us: “Providing a scholarship for a Global Teacher Fellowship for a Yadkin County teacher is an important way for me to give back to a community that means so much to me and in a way that is important to me. I want the teachers to have some of the same types of opportunities I had in understanding more about our world so they can come back home and teach their students what they learned and share these experiences with the community.”
