June Chen – associate director, world language programs – is membership chair on the board of directors for the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina (FLANC) and is a member of the American Council on Teaching Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the Chinese Language Teachers Association of N.C. During the first half of the 2017-2018 school year, June offered her expertise by presenting concurrent sessions to world language educators from North Carolina at the annual FLANC conference held in Durham, N.C. in October, which had nearly 600 attendees, and to language educators from across the country at the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo held in Nashville in November, which had more than 7,000 attendees. June’s topic, “Teach for Global Competence in World Language Classes,” taught teachers to define and recognize the importance of developing students’ global competence. June provided instructional strategies and activities, lesson plans, toolkits, resources, and examples to provide teachers with a solid foundation to develop global competence in their classrooms.
June is a language educator with years of experience teaching varying age groups, cultural backgrounds, and language proficiency levels in multiple countries and holds a North Carolina Teacher’s Standard Professional license.
