Tim Gabel

EVP – Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences, RTI

Tim J. Gabel is the executive vice president for Social, Statistical, and Environmental Sciences (SSES) at RTI. 

In this role he is responsible for setting the strategic direction and overseeing the operations of over 3,000 staff and contractors who conduct a variety of research, development, and technical assistance projects in the U.S. and around the world focused on challenges in health, education, environment, criminal justice, and public policy.

Mr. Gabel joined RTI in 1983 with technical training in statistics and computer science and has served in a variety of leadership roles during his career. He helped pioneer RTI’s early efforts to conceptualize and develop Internet applications for research activities and has extensive experience directing data collection and data processing activities for scientific research studies. More recently, he has helped lead the effort to align RTI to meet the demands of big data and to harness the potential from rapidly advancing technologies.

Mr. Gabel earned a B.S. from the University of Wyoming and an MBA from Duke University. He serves on a variety of nonprofit boards, including Go Global NC, the United Way of North Carolina and the Defense Alliance of North Carolina. He and his wife Lisa reside in Mebane, NC, and they have two grown daughters.
