Matt Friedrick

Executive Director of Development for the NC State College of Education

Matt Friedrick is the Executive Director of Development for the NC State College of Education, where he works with donors to support the college’s mission of preparing professionals who educate and lead.

Prior to NC State, Matt served as Regional Director for India and Latin America at Duke University and as Director of Global Education Programs at the UNC Center for International Understanding (now Go Global NC). Over his nine years with the Center, Matt and his team launched education programs and collaborative relationships in the U.S., China, India, Denmark, and Mexico. Their most notable accomplishments include a Chinese language program that continues to impact thousands of K-12 students across North Carolina and virtual partnerships that linked NC classrooms to classrooms abroad. Before the Center, Matt taught seventh grade in North Carolina and high school Spanish in Wisconsin. He has devoted his volunteer activities to education-related and global issues in North Carolina, having served as a board member for the Exploris School, as a task force member for the North Carolina State Board of Education, and as a board member for the Longview Foundation, which aims to improve global education in K-12 schools and teacher education programs across the U.S.

Matt earned his Master of Education and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from NC State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature with a minor in Anthropology from Texas A&M University, where he was a McFadden Scholar. He is a 2008 graduate of the NC Education Policy Fellowship Program.

Matt and his wife, Kate, live in Raleigh with their two children.
